Summer is here, and many foods are not easy to store during this season. This is where cling film comes in handy. Do you know how to use cling film correctly?
Cling film is not suitable for long-term food storage
Firstly, it is important to understand that no matter which type of cling film you use, it only provides a physical barrier and can only temporarily store food. It cannot be used as a method for long-term food preservation.
Appropriate uses for different types of cling film materials
PE and PVC films should not be heated. PE cling film is suitable for general household refrigeration, while PVDC cling film, due to its stability and heat resistance, can be used for wrapping vegetarian dishes or for heating.
Do not use cling film for fruits and vegetables
Many fruits and vegetables release plant ripening agents during the storage process. When wrapped in cling film, it is not easy for these agents to evaporate as cling film is not breathable. This can accelerate the spoilage of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the packaging of cling film hinders the evaporation of moisture in vegetables, which may also accelerate spoilage.
Avoid using cling film for oily foods
Foods with high oil content should not be stored with cling film, as contact with cling film can cause the release of plasticizers into the food, posing a health risk. Particularly, cling films made of PVC materials that contain a higher amount of plasticizers should not be used for preserving oily foods.
