Resuscitation measures for asphyxiated patients

May 10, 2023
Asphyxia is a pathological state of tissue cell metabolic disorders, functional disorders and morphological and structural damage caused by the lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide retention in all organs and tissues of the body due to the obstruction or abnormality of the human respiratory process for some reason. If a person suffocates, the following first aid measures must be taken.

Removal of airway obstruction

Patients with asphyxia should immediately clear the airway obstruction, if the asphyxia is caused by food inhalation or for the contents, we must try to restore the airway as soon as possible usually, so that the patient out of the state of hypoxia as soon as possible, the common methods are as follows 1, pull out: if the throat is blocked by dough, quickly propped open the mouth with fingers to pull out. 2, impact: the patient is in a supine position, with both hands under the raphe upward pressure, if sitting or standing, the rescuer behind the patient with both hands or other hard objects on top of the raphe, upward impact, this method is to use the pressure of the airflow in the chest cavity, the food blocked in the pharyngeal air jar flushed out. 3, drainage: immediately put the patient in the head low 45 ° -90 ° position, so that the inhaled food or for the contents of the outflow along the body position. 4、Tap the back: when doing postural drainage, tap the scapular area bilaterally, from the bottom up to promote the discharge of foreign bodies in the air tank.

Puncture first aid

Patients who suddenly stop breathing should use cricothyroid puncture to establish an artificial airway is the simplest and most effective ventilation measures, this method has a certain degree of risk, it is recommended to be handled by professional medical personnel.

First aid by air tank intubation

If the effect is still poor after performing first aid by puncture, first aid by air canister incision or air canister intubation can be adopted. This way can make the blockage of the airway clear quickly and thoroughly, resume a smooth and effective airway.

First aid by giving oxygen

The patient suffocates for a few minutes, the brain will be seriously deprived of oxygen, at this time, high-flow oxygen therapy should be given until the patient's hypoxic state is relieved, and then the catheter is left in place to continue normal feeding.

Respiratory stimulant use

If the patient's respiratory function is weakened during asphyxia, stimulants can be injected to gradually restore the patient's respiratory function and enhance self-supply.

Caution

Choking-type first aid involves relevant medical knowledge, so if people without professional training or study are not recommended to take the latter steps of first aid, consider seeking the help of medical personnel in nearby clinics.
