What is tongue moss?

Tongue lint is a light white substance covering the tongue, mainly composed of shed epithelial cells, oozing white blood cells, food debris, bacteria and saliva. Due to chewing and swallowing, flushing of saliva or food, the material on the surface of the tongue is constantly washed away. In healthy people, the tongue moss is thin and evenly distributed, and when there is an abnormality in the body a thick tongue moss may form.

Do you need to brush your tongue to brush your teeth?

Brush your tongue properly and regularly. If there is odor in the mouth, you can brush off the tongue to reduce the odor and to remove the germs in the mouth to keep the mouth healthy. The tongue of normal healthy people is not thick, so it does not need to be brushed frequently.

Is it good to brush the tongue often?

If the tongue is thick, it may produce oral odor, but it should not be brushed frequently. Frequent brushing of the tongue may scratch the tongue, irritate the taste buds, damage the tongue papillae, and even cause numbness of the back of the tongue, loss of taste sensation, and loss of appetite. If the tongue becomes thicker and you feel unwell, you should actively check and treat it. Scraping off the tongue by yourself may also affect the doctor's diagnosis.

How to brush the tongue

When you need to brush your tongue, it is best to use a soft and flexible toothbrush or a special tongue brush; brush it once a week, from the root to the tip of the tongue 7-10 times; if the tongue is thick and white due to food relations, you can brush it properly to keep your mouth comfortable; brush the back of the tongue gently, not too hard to avoid scratching the tongue.
