What's wrong with frequent farting

What is the problem with farts? Why do some people fart colorless and odorless, while some people fart incredibly smelly, even to the extent of making the plane in flight to return? Please see below.

What is the problem with frequent farting?

The amount of gas in the intestinal tract varies from person to person. It is not constant even for the same person. When the amount of anal gas is considerably more than usual, it is considered to be multiple farts. Excessive farting can be caused by various indigestion diseases, gastritis, peptic ulcer and other stomach diseases, liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases, etc. In addition, excessive farts may also be caused by excessive intake of starchy and protein foods (such as beans, potatoes, eggs, etc.), or by swallowing too much when eating, as well as by habitual swallowing movements and frequent swallowing of saliva and intake of more air. These are not pathological and do not require treatment.

Fart production

Farting is an essential physiological phenomenon in the human body. According to scientists who classify bacteria in the intestine, "There are about 100 species and 100 trillion bacteria living in the large intestine, especially in the section from the colon to the rectum. These bacteria make it easy to break down food. During the process of food decomposition, harmful substances are produced, and gas is also produced, and these gases are concentrated and expelled from the body to become farts. Farting is the elimination of those dirty gases from the body, which is very beneficial to health." Fart is one of the basis for measuring the gastrointestinal function, so let's learn how the different traits of farts reflect the health condition of the body.

No farts

No fart means that the anus has stopped exhausting and there are self-perceived symptoms and signs, such as gum pain, abdominal distension, vomiting, constipation, hyperactive or disappeared intestinal sounds, gas over water or metallic sounds are heard, etc., that may be intestinal obstruction, high intestinal obstruction, but patients can have anal exhaustion or defecation in the early stage of the disease. After abdominal surgery, if the patient does not fart for several days, it means that the patient's intestinal peristalsis has not yet recovered well, and the patient cannot eat yet and needs to be treated accordingly. If the patient can fart frequently, it indicates that the gastrointestinal function has returned to normal, suggesting that the patient can eat.

Fart is very smelly

The most abundant component of farts is nitrogen, accounting for about 80%, followed by carbon dioxide, accounting for 2~19%, and hydrogen, methane, oxygen, etc. The total number of the above non-odorous gases accounts for 99%. Therefore, under normal circumstances, farts are not particularly smelly. Fart is smelly including the following 3 types of causes.

Poor digestion

If a fart stinks badly, it is often the result of indigestion or eating too much meat. The body produces malodorous gases such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, indole, volatile amines, volatile fatty acids, etc. This is also the reason why some farts smell bad. Farting caused by indigestion and smelly farts require dieting, probiotic supplements and digestive aids.

Disease factors

When suffering from advanced intestinal malignancy, the gas discharged through the anus can also have a strange odor like rotting flesh due to the rotting of cancerous tissues, bacterial action and protein corruption. When there is bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract and blood is stagnant in the intestinal cavity, or when inflammation occurs in the intestinal tract (such as bacillary dysentery, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhagic small bowel infection), the gas discharged from the anus often smells fishy due to the decomposition of bacteria.

Food factors

Farting may also be caused by the smell of the food you eat. Foods containing irritating odors, such as garlic, onions, leeks, etc., tend to cause fart odor, which is not a pathological reaction so don't worry.

Do not hold your farts

According to research, there are more than 400 kinds of components in human farts, and most of the above-mentioned malodorous gases are harmful gases. If you hold them in, the gases will accumulate in the intestines and exchange with the gases in the blood that come to the intestinal mucosa, and when the gas concentration in the intestines is high, the harmful gases will flow back and cause symptoms such as abdominal pain and headache, so don't hold your farts in, otherwise it will cause great damage to your health.
