Ways for babies to grow taller

April 7, 2023
Every parent wants to have a healthy baby with normal height. In addition to genetics, baby's height is closely related to acquired factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, emotion, environment and disease, so every aspect should be taken seriously. The scientific method for infant height growth mainly includes the following 5 aspects.

Balanced diet

Height growth is related to many factors, among which nutritional factors are crucial. There are two peak periods of height growth: infancy and adolescence. These two periods should be supplemented with protein, minerals, trace elements and vitamins. At the same time eat less foods that interfere with calcium absorption.

Protein

Because protein is an important substance that makes up the body's tissues and organs, more high-protein foods such as fish, poultry, eggs, milk, and soybean products should be consumed.

Mineral elements

Appropriate substances and trace elements supplementation is also important for the elongation of bones and tendons, and can be supplemented by choosing dairy, fish, nuts, and animal offal.

Vitamins

Vitamins are life-sustaining elements that play an important role in the growth of children, such as citrus, apples, carrots, spinach, kiwi, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. are rich in vitamins.

Beware of foods that inhibit calcium absorption

Avoid foods that are not good for your baby's growth, such as cola, fruit juice, jelly, cream cake, ice cream, chocolate, etc. These foods are high in sugar and will prevent the absorption of calcium, and some foods containing too many additives such as meat loaf, ham, sausage and fried chicken will also affect the use of calcium, so that bone growth is hindered.

Proper exercise

Exercise can help with height growth. It has been observed that children who adhere to proper exercise have an average of 5 cm more height than those who do not exercise. Exercise should be easy and lively, free stretching projects, swimming and bouncing sports can produce benign stimulation of the epiphyseal plate (bone growth area), accelerating bone cell proliferation, thus promoting bone growth. By the time the baby can stand, parents can guide the baby to learn frog jumping and cat jumping.

Adequate sleep

Some parents have the habit of sleeping late, and their babies also sleep late, which is not good for children's growth, because the peak of pituitary secretion of growth hormone is in the sleep state after 10 p.m., so babies should fall asleep before 10 p.m.

Pleasant emotions

When babies are unhappy or crying, growth hormone secretion is reduced. Abused children and children who are often scolded by their parents or grow up in an environment of parental quarrels tend to be short in size. So parents should create a harmonious home environment for their babies to grow up healthily.

Treating diseases

Certain diseases can affect growth, such as malnutrition, chronic diarrhea, liver and kidney diseases, congenital heart disease, etc. need timely treatment. Among the endocrine diseases, pituitary dwarfism is caused by growth hormone deficiency. If treated with growth hormone early at the age of 3, it will not affect the height in the future.

Baby growth pattern

The following are the height ranges for each growth stage of babies. Full-term newborns: 49 to 51 cm in height Within 1 year of age: 24~25 cm height growth throughout the year After 2 years old ~ pre-puberty, annual growth of 5~6 cm. If the height growth from 0 to 2 years old is less than 70% of the above normal rate per year, and the growth rate after 2 years old is less than 4 cm per year, then such height growth is a problem, and it is best to go to the hospital for examination.
