What to do about insomnia in the elderly

April 4, 2023
There is a saying that eating well is better than sleeping well. Insomnia is a serious health hazard for the elderly, and senile insomnia is also a manifestation of the decline of brain function. To overcome insomnia, the following methods can be used.

Relax your mind

Sleep with your whole body and mind, do not go to sleep with the burden of thought, which is a prerequisite for hypnosis. Long-term insomniacs who rely on sleeping pills to fall asleep are better off not reading and thinking less before going to bed, and moving around indoors and outdoors for a while before going to bed. It is also necessary to arrange the best time. If you are a brainiac and want to strive for shorter sleep time and the best sleep effect, it is best to sleep at 10 pm and 2:30 am, when hormone levels and body temperature drop and are suitable for sleep.

Diet for sleep

If you want to sleep well, wash your feet with warm water before going to bed, then drink a glass of hot milk or 40 grams of sugar products to increase the secretion of insulin in the body, which helps amino acids enter muscle cells and promotes more tryptophan with hypnotic effect to enter the cells, thus making sleep deeper and longer. Eating more of the following foods is also good for relieving insomnia.

Celery and apple juice

Juice celery and apple with a small amount of lemon and drink it during the day to help promote sleep. The magnesium and iron in celery have anxiety-relieving and calming effects.

Longan Sour Date Tea

Longan meat, date palm, Fu Shen 10 grams each, orange peel 2.5 grams, put into a cup of tea and drink water, drink once a day, one hour before bedtime, has a calming effect on the mind, sedative sleep.

Silver fungus and lily soup

25 grams of silver fungus, 50 grams of lily, 50 grams of cored lotus seeds and 50 grams of rock sugar, boil the lotus seeds and lily first, then put the silver fungus, cook it on low fire to thicken and sticky, add rock sugar and use. Silver fungus and lily soup can calm the mind and strengthen the brain, especially suitable for patients with insomnia and dreaminess, anxiety and forgetfulness.

Liquid hypnotic

Due to mental tension or emotional excitement difficult to sleep, you can adopt a supine posture, hands under the navel, tongue licking the lower palate, the whole body relaxed, when the mouth is generated, constantly waiting for the fluid swallowed, after a few minutes, you can go to dreamland.

Look at the top of the eyebrows

Look hard at your own eyebrows with your eyes, insist on 10 seconds, the eyes will naturally close after fatigue, can also promote sleep.

Fatigue hypnosis

Before going to bed, play sports with high activity, and then take a hot bath or use hot water to scald your feet. You can also use a fitness ball to hypnotize sleep. When the fitness ball rotates in the palm of your hand, it can play a role in unblocking the meridians and adjusting the qi and blood, which can eliminate fatigue, restore blood pressure to normal and improve sleep.

Knock on the teeth to hypnotize sleep

Lie on your back and gently knock your teeth 2 times per second, while counting the number of times you knock your teeth silently, from 1 to 100 and then from 1.

Head bobbing for hypnosis

Lie on your back in bed. Swing your head gently from the middle to the right side with a swinging angle of 5-10 degrees and a swinging speed of 1 to 2 seconds/time. When swinging, count silently, in line with the method of knocking teeth, and gradually reduce the swinging amplitude and speed as the number of swings increases.

Use magnets wisely

When sleeping at night, a magnet under the pillow can effectively prevent insomnia.
