Contact lenses are not new to modern people. Especially if you are nearsighted and don't want to wear frame glasses, contact lenses come in handy. But many people don't know how to start with contact lenses for the first time, and many others have never worn them properly. Here's how to wear contact lenses.
Have them checked
Contact lenses are good, but they are not for everyone. If you want to wear contact lenses, you must go to a regular place for a medical examination to make sure your eyes are ready for contact lenses. You should also choose a regular place to buy contact lenses, and not buy them for cheap to avoid eye damage.
Clean your hands
Whether you are wearing contact lenses or removing them, it is important to keep your hands clean and try to keep hand contact with minimal bacteria to help reduce the likelihood of eye infections. It is also important to note that you should not wear contact lenses with long fingernails, which can easily harm your eyes and accumulate bacteria.
Wearing contact lenses
Wearing contact lenses with your fingers can be done by a professional or by yourself.
- After washing your hands, clean the lenses thoroughly
- With both eyes looking forward, open the upper and lower eyelids with the index finger and thumb of the hand on the same side of the lens wearer so that the fingers are positioned as close to the edge of the eyelid as possible.
- Hold the front side of the lens (the front side is where the contact lens edge is rounded in a bowl) with the index finger of the other hand and place the lens on the cornea.
- Release the index finger and look down at the eye, the lens is able to attach to the eye at this point, then release the middle finger. If you are uncomfortable you can use your fingers to gently adjust the position of the glasses and close your eyes to confirm that they are well worn.
Removing contact lenses
For hard lenses, use the index finger or middle finger of the same hand, place it vertically on the outer canthus, open your eyes wide, and pull the upper eyelid upward and outward with the fingers of the outer canthus so that the upper and lower lid edges are higher than the edge of the lens, squeezing the lens out and catching it with the other hand. In the case of soft lenses, use the index finger and thumb of the same hand to pull the eyelid open and look upward, and then use the thumb and index finger of the other hand to remove the lens directly.
Contact lens cleaning and storage
After using contact lenses, rinse them with tap water, then use a special detergent for cleaning contact lenses, and finally rinse them with saline. Soft contact lenses, in particular, are more prone to bacteria and fungus, so they must be cleaned and disinfected after daily wear.
Warm Tips
After learning how to wear contact lenses, it is important to note that it is not advisable to wear contact lenses for too long, otherwise it is easy to cause the eyes' own resistance to decline, eye fatigue, dryness and other discomfort, and in serious cases, it may also cause eye allergies and so on. In addition, after wearing contact lenses any eye discomfort is best to go to a professional ophthalmologist as soon as possible to identify the cause and timely treatment.
