The effects of high blood sugar on the skin

March 30, 2023

Recently Halloween, on that day, mothers throughout the United States will remind their children who wear costume props that if they eat too much begging of too much candy will be greasy to the point of nausea. But what most moms don't realize is that foods that raise blood pressure can also easily lead to wrinkles. Dermatologists call this effect "sugar sagging". Why don't you come with me to find out what sugar can do to your skin?

High blood sugar causes loss of skin elasticity

The "sugar sag" phenomenon occurs when the skin loses elasticity due to elevated blood sugar. Although skin elasticity can also disappear as a person ages, foods that raise blood sugar can accelerate the process of skin loss.

Scientific Research

It has long been proven by physicists that high blood sugar in diabetics can cause premature skin aging. A female physicist named Katta says that in recent years, more and more physicists believe that "sugar sagging" can occur not only in the diabetic population, but also in the non-diabetic population.

High blood sugar causes premature skin aging principle

High blood sugar causes collagen fibers in the skin to cross-link with each other, an action called glycation, which produces advanced glycosylation end-products. Once these end products are formed, the skin undergoes structural changes that cause it to lose elasticity and become more rigid.

Foods that cause high blood sugar

It's not just Halloween night candy that can raise blood sugar and cause wrinkles, other foods such as soda and white bread can produce late stage glycosylation end products that cause wrinkles in the skin. Even foods themselves contain varying amounts of late stage glycosylation end products. Foods that are cooked at high temperatures, such as fried foods, contain higher levels of late glycosylation end products than other foods.
