Warming Foods for Elderly: Boosting Metabolism and Fighting Cold

Some elderly people, due to the lack of body yang, show a particular aversion to cold in the cold winter. For these elderly people, choosing some qi-tonifying and yang-boosting foods in their diet can accelerate metabolism, enhance secretion function, and effectively improve the phenomenon of aversion to cold.

1. Meat

Among meats, dog meat, mutton, beef, deer meat, donkey meat, rooster meat, duck meat, quail, crucian carp, turtle, octopus, and grass carp have the best effect in keeping warm. They are beneficial for tonifying the kidney and yang, warming the middle and lower energizer, and nourishing qi and blood.

2. Root vegetables

3. Iron-rich foods

4. Iodine-rich foods

The human thyroid gland secretes a hormone called thyroxine, which has a thermogenic effect, and thyroxine is composed of iodine and tyrosine. Tyrosine can be "produced" in the body, but iodine needs to be supplemented from the outside. Seaweed, nori, shellfish, oysters, sardines, spinach, and fish and shrimp are rich in iodine and can be chosen for consumption.
