Autumn Digestive Aid: Fruit Porridge Recipes for Elderly

After the beginning of autumn, the hot weather gradually subsides, and the elderly may experience a weakening of their digestive system, especially those who are physically weak. The two fruit porridge recipes below can help deal with the high humidity and low air pressure that comes right after the beginning of autumn, by enhancing appetite and regulating digestion.

1. Watermelon Rind Porridge

Ingredients: 100g watermelon rind, 50g rice, 15g sugar. Remove the tough outer skin of the watermelon rind and cut it into small cubes. Rinse the rice thoroughly and place it in a pot along with the watermelon rind and an appropriate amount of water. Boil the mixture on high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer until it becomes porridge. Add sugar to taste.

2. Bitter Gourd Porridge

Ingredients: 100g bitter gourd, 15g rock sugar, 2g salt, 100g glutinous rice. Remove the seeds from the bitter gourd and cut it into small cubes. Rinse the glutinous rice thoroughly and place it in a pot along with the bitter gourd. Add an appropriate amount of water and bring to a boil over high heat. Add rock sugar and salt, then reduce to low heat and simmer until it becomes a thin porridge.
