Proper Usage and Guidelines for Exfoliating Cream

November 1, 2023

Exfoliating cream is one of many exfoliating products. Some people who purchase exfoliating cream are unsure of the correct way to use it. Below is a guide on how to use exfoliating cream correctly.

Correct Steps for Using Exfoliating Cream

When using exfoliating cream, follow the steps below:

1. Wet your face with warm water and cleanse it with facial cleanser.

2. Gently pat your face dry with a clean towel to remove excess water.

3. Take an appropriate amount of exfoliating cream in your palm, add a few drops of warm water, emulsify it, and then apply it slowly to your face. Pay attention to areas where dead skin cells tend to accumulate, such as the T-zone, chin, and forehead, and apply a bit more cream to those areas.

4. After applying the cream, use your fingertips to massage your face in circular motions for 2-3 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.

5. Finally, use a towel to remove excess water from your face and apply moisturizer.

Correct Age for Using Exfoliating Cream

The recommended age for using exfoliating cream is generally 18 and above, but it is not a fixed rule. We usually determine the need for exfoliation based on whether the skin cannot effectively absorb skincare products after cleansing. Younger skin tends to have more moisture and nutrients, and its natural exfoliation process is normal, so it does not easily accumulate dead skin cells.

Correct Frequency of Using Exfoliating Cream

In general, exfoliating cream should be used once a week. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you can use it every two weeks or even longer. Using exfoliating cream too frequently can damage the skin and make it thinner, leading to dryness, peeling, and redness.

Do Not Use Exfoliating Cream on Acne-Prone Skin

Using exfoliating cream on acne-prone skin can cause the pimples to rupture and lead to infection. When experiencing acne, it is recommended to use specialized acne products that can dissolve dead skin cells, have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and avoid using exfoliating cream.

Can Sensitive Skin Use Exfoliating Cream?

In general, we do not recommend exfoliating for sensitive skin. However, exfoliating creams that contain natural plant extracts can dissolve dead skin cells and make the exfoliation process gentler and less irritating, making it suitable for sensitive skin. It is important to choose exfoliating creams for sensitive skin that contain gentle ingredients with plant extracts, and it is generally recommended to use them every 2-3 weeks.
