Controlling Sebum: Tips for Managing Oily Skin

October 21, 2023

Sebum secretion of the skin is ongoing, especially during hot weather, when the sebum secretion is more active, causing the skin to become large-pored and dull. So what can we do about severe oiliness of the skin?

Oil-free skincare

The first step in controlling oil is to choose the right skincare products. Opt for oil-free products that ensure a fresh and non-greasy complexion. For foundation and makeup, choose matte finish products or those that have oil-absorbing properties for better results.

Cooling the skin

If the skin temperature is too high, it can also be the culprit of excessive oiliness. Therefore, prepare some cooling remedies in your bag when going out to keep your skin refreshed anytime, anywhere. Common options include moisturizing sprays or portable mini fans.

Use oil blotting paper

If you suddenly notice oily skin before a date, gently press oil-absorbing powder or blotting paper on the oily areas to instantly achieve an oil-free complexion and maintain a 100% positive mood for your date. To ensure better skin longevity, use hydrating sprays or localized oil-control creams after oil control, keeping your skin refreshed throughout the day.

Facial mask on schedule

Excessive oiliness is actually a sign of skin dehydration, so after oil control, pay attention to hydrating your skin. Choose hydrating masks with good moisturizing effects 1-2 times a week to properly care for your skin.

Avoid oily foods

Greasy foods easily convert protein into excess fat, leading to increased sebum secretion in the skin. Try to consume less greasy foods and opt for lighter options, with more vegetables in your diet. When stir-frying, avoid using excessive oil and salt.

Minimize makeup

Oily skin tends to have excessive sebum secretion. If not cleansed in a timely manner, the sebum reacts with substances in the air and easily forms blackheads. Moreover, excess sebum can also cause clogged pores, leading to issues like acne and pimples. This is why many people with oily skin struggle with blackheads, pimples, and acne. Makeup can accelerate the occurrence of these skin problems.
