Understanding Acne on Dry Skin: Causes and Solutions

October 21, 2023

Many people think that acne is only a problem for oily skin. However, this is not true - acne can occur on all skin types, and the causes of acne can vary. So, what are the reasons for acne on dry skin?

Acne due to internal heat

If someone with dry skin has internal heat, toxins in the body may not be effectively eliminated, leading to acne. Different areas of the face can indicate different internal organs affected by internal heat. For example, acne on the left cheek may indicate excessive liver heat, while acne on the right cheek may indicate excessive lung heat. Acne on the tip of the nose may indicate excessive stomach heat, and acne on the forehead may indicate excessive heart heat, and so on.

Acne due to hormonal imbalance

Dry skin can also be prone to acne if there is a hormonal imbalance. An imbalance in hormone levels can easily disrupt the body's metabolism, leading to acne. For example, staying up late frequently or experiencing menstrual or pregnancy periods can increase the likelihood of acne.

Acne due to skin dehydration

The most obvious characteristic of dry skin is dryness and dehydration. When the skin lacks hydration, the turnover of the stratum corneum slows down, and the accumulation of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin can easily clog pores and cause acne.

Acne due to inadequate skin cleansing

Dry skin is prone to the accumulation of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, which can clog pores. However, many people with dry skin are afraid to thoroughly cleanse their skin because the stratum corneum is thinner. This can result in clogged pores and acne. In reality, when washing the face, individuals with dry skin should first use warm water to open the pores, then use a moisturizing facial cleanser, and finally rinse the skin thoroughly with clean water.

Acne due to greasy diet

If someone with dry skin has a consistently greasy diet, it can easily worsen the imbalance of oil and moisture in the skin. This can lead to clogged pores, accumulation of excess oil and dirt, and ultimately, acne.
