What to do about itchy skin

March 29, 2023
Dry skin is due to a lack of water in the skin rather than a lack of oil. Keep this concept in mind as you engage in your daily skincare routine in winter. What should I do if I have dry and itchy skin in winter?

Let your skin drink water directly

The best way to get moisture into your skin is to lattice your skin to immerse in water. Soak in warm water (not hot water) for 15 minutes. You don't need to take a hot bath every day. The lesson for dealing with dry skin is to reduce the number of baths and use cooler water.

Timing of moisturizing skin

Applying lotion while there is a little moisture on the surface of the skin, and quickly applying it to water-soaked skin after a shower is much more effective than applying it to completely dry skin. This doesn't mean you have to jump out of the tub or shower with the shower head wet and then immediately apply lotion all over your body. You still have to pat your body dry with a towel and then apply the lotion.

The best lotion

There is no better lotion than petroleum jelly or mineral oil. In fact, if you don't care to live, almost any vegetable oil (sunflower, peanut) or hydrogenated oil can be used to fight dry skin and itchy skin. These oils are effective, safe and pure skin lubricants. They are also very inexpensive. However, these products have a common drawback: they tend to make the skin greasy. People like things that smell good and feel fresh. All skin care lotions have the same basic function and there is no scientific way to prove which brand is better for you and which is not. It all depends on your personal preference.

Oatmeal for dryness and itchiness

Oats can act as a softening agent when taking a bath. Simply pour two cups of colloidal oatmeal powder into a tub of warm water. By colloidal I mean that the oats are ground to a fine powder and then suspended in the water in a milky consistency you can use the oats as a soap. Wrap the medical oat powder in a handkerchief, dip it into the water, squeeze out the excess water, and then wipe in the same way you would with a regular towel.

Use superfat soap

Use superfat soap Most soaps contain concentrated lye. Although concentrated lye is quite effective in washing, it can be irritating to dry skin. People with dry skin should not use strong lye soaps and should use lipid-rich brands. These super-lipid soaps are made with additional fatty substances - cold cream, cocoa butter, coconut oil or lanolin. Dove soap, for example, is not really a soap. It is rather more like a cold cream. Not to mention the various benefits and drawbacks of this product, although it is less effective at cleansing, it is gentler on dry skin and does improve the condition of the skin after use.

Using a humidifier

Part of the reason for dry skin and itchy skin in winter is the use of a dry heater. Using a heater reduces the humidity level in the room to 10% or lower, however, a humidity level of 30% to 40% is good for protecting the moisture in the skin. For this reason, use a humidifier during the winter months, but certain things need to be noted. Many people think that it is okay to put up a humidifier. But just like cold air, if you want to improve the humidity in the whole house, you have to use a larger machine. If it is limited to the sleeping room, then a humidifier by the bed will do. But be sure to keep the door closed so that the water does not dissipate.

Lower your body temperature

An easy way to combat itchy skin in winter is to lower your body temperature. Keeping the house cool in winter may help. This is because cold nimble air has a numbing effect - it makes your skin feel soothed. When the temperature inside the house is too high (out of the use of heating or air conditioning), it will cause your blood vessels to dilate, and when they do, your skin will feel comfortable and less itchy.

Winter skin care science common sense

The main cause of dry skin in winter is still the environment, especially the use of heating and air conditioning indoors, dry itchy skin is inevitable. So what is the science of winter skin care?

Drinking water to relieve dryness is not advisable

Drink at least 7 or 8 glasses of water every day to keep your skin hydrated and prevent it from drying out. This can not be fully believed. If your whole body is deficient, your skin will become dry. But if your body's moisture level remains normal, you can't fight dry skin or recover from dry skin by drinking water.

Use lotion for frequent bathing

After each bath, remember to use a skin care lotion to prevent the moisture that penetrates the skin from dissipating. If you bathe frequently, you need lotion. The function of lotion is to retain moisture in the skin. Many people think that lotion is a way to replenish the oils on the skin, but this is not entirely true. It is important to understand that dry skin is due to moisture loss, not oil. When you take a bath, your skin will experience the same effect. Therefore, using lotion after a shower will help retain moisture in your skin to prevent dryness.

Control the frequency of soap use

Soaps do not have any effect. Regular use of soap can cause problems instead. More problems are caused by overuse of soap than by not using it.
