Acupuncture for Weight Loss: Five Common Methods
Ear acupuncture:
Ear points: mouth, esophagus, duodenum, hunger point, endocrine, brain, stomach.
Procedure: Select 1-2 points each time and alternate between both ears. Apply ear acupuncture 2-3 times a week, with 10 sessions completing one course. Allow a 5-7 day interval between each course.
Body acupuncture (Method 1):
Acupoints: Main points are Guanyuan and Sanyinjiao.
Supplemental points: Select based on differentiation of syndromes.
For spleen deficiency with dampness retention: Neiguan, Shuifen, Tianshu, Fenglong, Lieque, Lieque, Piyu.
For damp-heat accumulation: Quchi, Zhi Gou, Daheng, Siman, Neiting, Fuxie.
For disharmony between the spleen and the stomach: Zhi Gou, Zhongzhu, Daimai, Xuehai, Shenyu, Taixi.
Procedure: Main points are always selected and then additional points (3-4) are added based on the syndrome. Leave the needles in for half an hour each time, with one treatment every other day. 15 sessions complete one course, with a 5-day interval between each course.
Body acupuncture (Method 2):
Acupoints: Main points are Tianshu, Zhongzhu, Daheng.
Supplemental points: Quchi, Hegu, Gaohuang, Neiting, Sanyinjiao.
Procedure: Connect Tianshu and Daheng to an electric acupuncture device and apply continuous electric stimulation for 15-20 minutes. Treat once every other day, with 10 sessions completing one course.
Moxibustion:
Acupoints: Main points are Yangchi and Sanjiaoshu.
Supplemental points: Diji, Mingmen, Sanyinjiao, Dazhui.
Procedure: Select one main point and one supplemental point each time and apply moxibustion with ginger-separated moxa cones.
