Dysmenorrhea caused by Cold Uterus: Can moxibustion help?

Dysmenorrhea caused by cold uterus can lead to delayed menstruation and a series of other problems for many women. In more severe cases, it can even cause infertility. When the uterine temperature is not sufficient, it is difficult for the fertilized egg to successfully implant and survive. Can moxibustion help with cold uterus?

Can moxibustion help with cold uterus?

Moxibustion for cold uterus should not be excessive. It is recommended to do it 4-5 times a week, with each session lasting no more than 1 hour. Prolonged moxibustion can cause excessive heat and lead to constipation. For the first three or four days, moxibustion should be done daily, and then every one or two days afterwards. Moxibustion can be performed continuously for several months, half a year, or even a year until the symptoms of cold uterus improve. The duration of moxibustion varies from person to person and depends on the severity of the condition. Generally, the duration is around 30 to 40 minutes, adjusted based on comfort level.

How to perform moxibustion for cold uterus?

Take a moxa stick or moxa wool and a moxibustion box. Light the moxa stick and bring it close to the skin near the moxibustion points. Move it up, down, left, and right to repeat the process. The heat should be moderate and comfortable for the skin. During moxibustion, concentrate your thoughts to avoid deviating from the position or causing burns.

The best method is to light the moxa stick and place it in the moxibustion box. Place the box directly on the entire abdomen, which ensures comprehensive and safe moxibustion. The Sanyinjiao acupoint can be moxibusted using a portable moxibustion box.

Traditional Chinese medicine methods for treating cold uterus

1. Daily exercise

Brisk walking is the simplest method. Walking, especially on pebble roads, can stimulate the meridians and acupoints on the soles of the feet, promote blood circulation, and keep the body warm.

2. Menstrual period care

Drink water boiled with brown sugar and mugwort leaves to warm the uterus and dispel cold and stasis. Drink brown sugar water for three days before menstruation to increase the amount of bleeding and facilitate the complete discharge of menstrual blood, as well as invigorate blood circulation and warm the uterus.

3. Daily nourishment

Cook soup with wolfberry, walnut, longan, jujube, mulberry, angelica, chicken blood vine, ginger, chicken or mutton. The soup can warm the kidneys, invigorate yang, replenish essence, and nourish blood. Cold uterus is a condition characterized by insufficient yang energy, so symptoms of excessive heat or body heat are not likely to occur.

4. Foot soaking with Chinese herbs

Boil water with mugwort leaves, cinnamon, and Sichuan pepper, and use it to soak both feet. This has the effect of warming the kidneys, dispelling cold, and invigorating meridians.
