Moxibustion: A Safe and Effective Method for Weight Loss

January 30, 2024

Moxibustion for Weight Loss is a safe and effective method of losing weight by stimulating acupuncture points to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis.

1. Principle of Moxibustion for Weight Loss

1) Cell Heating:

After the skin is heated, the pores expand, allowing the medicine to quickly penetrate the subcutaneous tissue and reach the affected area.

For every one-degree increase in cell temperature, the oxidation rate of oxygen increases by 2.5 times.

Moxibustion can enhance the ability and speed of cell absorption of nutrients.

2) Combination with Chinese Medicine:

By adding precious Chinese herbal medicines to the materials used in moxibustion, the active ingredients can quickly reach the affected area. Under the action of heat and moxibustion, it instantly activates the meridians and promotes cell activation.

3) Stimulation of Veins:

It can instantly stimulate the meridian acupoints, achieving the purpose of opening the meridians.

4) Dual Regulation:

When moxibustion is applied to the body's meridian acupoints, the meridians and acupoints have a self-regulating effect. For example, diarrhea and constipation are two completely opposite conditions;

By moxibustion on the acupoint Tian Shu alone, both constipation and diarrhea can be resolved.

5) Thermal Sensitivity Transmission:

Heat transmission, expansion of heat, heat transfer, local heat without heat in distant areas, or other non-thermal sensations.

During moxibustion or after moving away from the moxibustion site, there may be feelings of soreness, swelling, pressure, heaviness, pain, numbness, coldness, etc.

2. Methods of Moxibustion for Weight Loss

Moxibustion is applied to the following acupoints: each acupoint should be reddish for about 20 minutes.

1) Zhong Wan Acupoint:

Location: On the midline of the upper abdomen, four inches above the navel.

Can enhance the digestion and absorption of food in the stomach, and also treat stomach pain, acid reflux, nausea, etc.

2) Guan Yuan Acupoint:

Location: Three inches below the navel.

Has the function of strengthening and keeping the body healthy, and can enhance the elasticity of the abdominal muscles.

3) Da Heng Acupoint:

Location: Four inches on either side of the navel.

Used to treat constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

4) Pi Yu Acupoint:

Location: 1.5 inches on either side of the ninth thoracic vertebra spinous process.

Can enhance the body's ability to absorb nutrients, promote faster blood circulation, and improve hematopoietic function.

3. Precautions for Moxibustion

Since moxibustion involves the use of fire, improper application may cause burns to the local skin;

On the other hand, moxibustion consumes some essence and blood, so there are certain parts or individuals that cannot receive moxibustion. These are the contraindications for moxibustion.

For exposed areas such as the face, direct moxibustion should be avoided to prevent scarring and affect aesthetics.
