Sneezing is very common in everyday life, but if you can't sneeze when you want to, it's a very uncomfortable feeling, just like eating flies and not being able to spit them out, so what if you can't sneeze? What is wrong with sneezing?

Stimulation of the nasal cavity

Generally sneezing is caused by bronchial stimulation, cilia swing stimulation, when you want to sneeze but have to sneeze out, you can use cotton swabs or tissue strips into the nose gently touch, stimulate the nasal cavity, so that the sneeze out. This is also the method of sneezing to promote the lungs advocated by doctors in ancient times.

Light Sneeze Reflex

When you want to sneeze but can't, try slightly tilting your head to the fluorescent light or the sun, and the sneeze will come out easily. This principle is the light sneeze reflex, where the visual and olfactory reflex arcs connect to the brain at almost the same point. In some people, when they are exposed to bright light after spending some time in the dark, the visual and olfactory nerves then "cross paths" and the brain gets the wrong message that it is not the eyes but the nose that is being stimulated, and the brain then sends the command to sneeze to help the nose remove this external stimulus.

Smell a slightly irritating odor

This method is suitable for cases when you want to sneeze when you have a cold, such as smelling chili peppers, pepper, etc. Be careful not to get them up your nose when you smell them. This can stimulate the nasal cavity and promote sneezing to achieve the purpose of taking sneeze to promote the lungs. Note: Sneezing caused by conditions such as pollen allergy is prohibited with this method.

What happens when you can't sneeze?

When the nasal cavity is stimulated, the trigeminal nerve located in the nasal mucosa sends a command to the respiratory muscles acting on the lungs to sneeze. But if the nasal cavity is not stimulated enough, the nervous system may not give the command to sneeze. There is also the case where the stimulation is sufficient, but the respiratory muscles in the lungs do not contract enough, and the sneeze will not come out.

Dangers of not sneezing

In general, when you want to sneeze, you must sneeze out, because sneezing can expel a large number of bacteria, irritants and foreign bodies from the body. If you want to sneeze but cannot, it means that irritants exist in the nasal cavity but are not expelled, which is not good for your health.
