Medicated Diets for Treating Chronic Gastritis in the Elderly

February 17, 2024

After entering old age, the immune system of many people starts to decline, and the body's metabolism slows down, leading to frequent indigestion and bloating. One common disease in the elderly is chronic gastritis, which is characterized by postprandial bloating in the upper abdomen, stomach discomfort, heartburn, belching, acid reflux, and nausea. Below, I will introduce several medicated diets for the treatment of chronic gastritis in the elderly.

Medicated Diet 1: Nutritious Warming Stomach Powder

Ingredients: 500g soybeans, 1000g glutinous rice, 30g dried tangerine peel, 10g ginger

Method: Soak the soybeans in rice water for 4 hours (until they become swollen), then rinse with clean water and drain. Heat a cast iron pan and add the soybeans, stir-frying until they make a popping sound and the skin turns yellow. Remove from heat and sieve out the soybeans while hot, grind into coarse powder. Cut the tangerine peel and ginger into small pieces, dry them, and mix them with the soybean powder. Grind them together into fine powder. Wash and drain the glutinous rice, stir-fry until slightly yellow. Remove from heat, grind into fine powder, mix evenly with the soybean powder, and grind again to make it very fine. Put it in a bottle, seal tightly, and keep it dry. When consuming, pour the powder into a pot, add brown sugar or white sugar for taste, dilute with water, and cook until it bubbles into a paste.

Effect: Tonifies the middle burner, strengthens the spleen, warms the stomach, and promotes digestion.

Indications: Suitable for elderly patients with chronic gastritis.

Note: Best consumed in winter and spring.

Medicated Diet 2: Coconut Meat Jujube Chicken Glutinous Rice

Method: Cut the coconut meat into small pieces. Remove the pits from the jujube. Cut the chicken into shreds. Wash the glutinous rice. Cook them together with water in a pot to make rice.

Medicated Diet 3: Chenpi Oil-Blanched Chicken

Ingredients: 1 tender chicken (about 1500g), 15g chenpi, 10g each of green onion and ginger, 5g salt, 2g peppercorns, 25g rock sugar, 1000ml vegetable oil (75ml consumed), 2g monosodium glutamate, 3ml sesame oil, appropriate amount of marinade

Method: Wash and cut the chenpi into 5mm-wide shreds. After slaughtering and cleaning the chicken, wash it. Wash the green onion, ginger, and peppercorns, and put them into a pot with water. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil. Add the chicken and half of the chenpi shreds, boil for 20 minutes, then remove the chicken and let it cool. Discard the soup. Pour the marinade into the pot, bring to a boil over medium heat, then add the chicken and simmer until cooked. In another frying pan, add a small amount of marinade, add rock sugar, and cook until the sauce thickens. Add salt and monosodium glutamate for seasoning. Spread the sauce on the surface of the chicken. Clean the frying pan, place over medium heat, add vegetable oil, and heat until the foam dissipates and blue smoke appears. Remove from heat, let the oil cool slightly, and fry the remaining chenpi until crispy. Remove from oil. Pour the oil over the chicken twice, turning the chicken red and shiny. Brush sesame oil on the surface of the chicken, cut it into pieces, and serve on a plate. Sprinkle with chenpi shreds.
