Huangling is a perennial herbaceous plant, with a height of 20-50cm. The main root is conical, about 10-30cm long and 1-2cm in diameter. The outer skin is yellow-brown and the inner part is yellow. The stem grows in clusters, with the base creeping or slightly upright, and branching extensively. The plant is square-shaped, green or purplish-green in color.
Clearing heat and detoxification
Huangling can clear heat and detoxify, and is used for symptoms such as chest congestion, nausea, lung heat cough, and tumor sores.
Liver protection and bile promotion
Huangling contains Huangling glycosides, which have the effect of protecting the liver and promoting bile secretion. It is mainly used clinically for infectious hepatitis, acute biliary infection, and lead poisoning.
Treating blood heat
Huangling can treat blood heat and restlessness, and can be used together with Shengdi, Mudanpi, and Cebaiye. It can be used with Jinyinhua and Lianqiao for treating heat-toxic sores. Huangling also has the effect of clearing heat and calming the fetus, and can be used for restless fetal movement. It is often used in combination with Baizhu and Zhuru.
Sedation and calming
Huangling tea is rich in active minerals, which can stimulate and strengthen the nerves. Therefore, it is often used as a neurotropic drug. It can effectively relieve common emotional problems in busy life, such as tension, mental hypersensitivity, hysteria, neurasthenia, depression, and a sense of crisis.
