The efficacy and effects of Hou Pu and contraindications
April 5, 2023
Hou Pu, an aromatic and dampness-transforming herb, is used for treating: food stagnation; abdominal distension and constipation; dampness obstructing the middle jiao, celiac disease and diarrhea; phlegm congestion and rebellion; chest fullness and asthma. It is from the Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medica. Now it is a national grade II key protected wild plant. Let's take a look at the efficacy and contraindications of Hou Pao.
Dry dampness and remove flatulence
Hou Pu can dry up dampness, lower Qi and remove flatulence, and is used to eliminate flatulence. It is mainly used for the treatment of dampness obstructing the middle jiao, and for the treatment of abdominal distention and fullness.
Relieving qi and relieving middle stagnation
Hou Pao has the effect of lowering Qi and relieving middle stagnation, eliminating stagnation. It can treat heat constipation, food stagnation, abdominal distension and constipation, and also eliminate stagnation.
Drying dampness and eliminating phlegm
Hou Pu has the effect of drying dampness and eliminating phlegm, lowering Qi and calming asthma. It can treat phlegm-drink obstructing the lung, lung qi not descending, coughing, asthma and chest congestion, cold drinks turning into heat, chest congestion and asthma, phlegm sounding in the throat, irritability and restlessness and persistent asthma, external wind-cold.
Strengthening the stomach
Hou Pu and its volatile oil with bitter taste can stimulate the sense of taste and reflexively cause the secretion of saliva and gastric juice, and accelerate the peristaltic movement of stomach and intestines, which has the effect of strengthening the stomach and helping digestion.
Anti-ulcer
The anti-ulcer effect is strengthened after ginger preparation, but the anti-ulcer effect is not obvious for the fried product. and huperzine phenol and huperzine phenol are the effective active ingredients to inhibit gastric mucosal ulceration. Houcetol has inhibitory effect on gastric ulcer caused by pyloric ligation, water immersion stress, etc. It also has some inhibitory effect on duodenal spasm caused by histamine.
Antibacterial
In vitro experiments have proved that Hauppauge decoction has antibacterial effects on Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus haemolyticus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bacillus pertussis and Gram-negative bacteria such as Bacillus anthracis, Bacillus dysenteriae, Bacillus typhi, Bacillus paratyphi, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Bacillus pyogenes and Bacillus subtilis.
Relaxation of skeletal muscle
Magnoflorine and huperzine in Hauppauge have the effect of relaxing the transverse muscle, and their effect is similar to that of cylindrical arrow poison. Hauppolol and heppolol have long-lasting central muscle relaxing activity. Hauppol has significant inhibitory effect on spinal excitatory transmitter glutamate, while it has no effect on spinal inhibitory transmitter GABA.
Sedation
The ether infusion of Phellodendron has a significant sedative effect. Intraperitoneal injection can inhibit the spontaneous activity of mice, and can also counteract the excitatory effect due to methamphetamine or apomorphine. It also counteracts the excitatory effect due to methamphetamine or apomorphine. Hauppaugeol and and Hauppaugeol also have significant central depressant effects. The mechanism of the central depressant effect of huperzine is through the inhibition of polysynaptic reflex to cause muscle relaxation, and the inhibition of the action of glutamate, the precursor of spinal excitatory transmitters, to produce spinal cord depression.
Antihypertensive
Hauppauge decoction has an inhibitory effect on the isolated heart of toad. The antihypertensive effect is not antagonized by antihistamines, and the maintenance time of the antihypertensive effect is about 10-15 minutes when administered by injection, and more than 1 hour when administered intramuscularly. The aqueous tincture of Huperzine has a hypotensive effect on cats and rabbits, and can accelerate the heart rate.
Treatment and health care
1、Lowering of blood pressure: Magnolia arrow poisoning base and Magnolia alkaloids have lowering effect.
2、Anti-polymerization: Hauppaugeol and heppaugeol can significantly inhibit platelet aggregation and ATP release induced by collagen and other rabbits, and also inhibit the production of thromboxane B2 induced by rabbit platelets.
3. Antibacterial: Its aqueous decoction has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect. The phenolic component of Hauppauge has strong, efficient and rapid antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans strain, a caries-causing bacteria of dental disease, and has the advantage of low toxicity when taken orally. And it has an inhibitory effect on common pathogenic skin fungi. It has obvious antibacterial effect on diseases caused by human malignant abscess and human anthrax bacillus.
4、Anti-viral: Magnolol and Huperzine have obvious inhibitory effect on EB virus. Hauppaugeol is the active ingredient of anti-hepatitis virus.
5、Anti-cancer: Hauppauge magnol has obvious anti-cancer activity.
6、Improve cellular immunity: Hauppaugeol can improve the function of T-cell subpopulation of the body.
7、Anti-allergic: Chai-po-tang, which is mainly based on Hou-po, has obvious anti-type I allergic reaction and can obviously inhibit passive skin allergic reaction caused by bovine gammaglobulin IgE serum, and also has effect on type IV allergic reaction.
8、Anti-inflammatory: Hou Pao phenol has the effect of reducing capillary permeability in inflammation area, inhibiting leukocyte excursion and inhibiting fibrous tissue proliferation.
9、Anti-hepatic damage: Houcunol has the effect of reducing serum ALT and blood ammonia nitrogen on acute experimental liver injury. It can obviously prevent the formation of immune liver fibrosis and hepatic sclerosis. It has the effect of improving the pathological damage of viral and immune liver disease.
Contraindications to the use of Hou Pao
1, people with Qi deficiency and fluid deficiency and pregnant women should use Hou Pao with caution.
2. It is not advisable to consume it together with beans because it contains tannin and bean food is rich in protein, which will react chemically and form tannin that is not easily digested and absorbed. In addition, both of them contain complex organic components, and eating them together may also produce other adverse reactions, making beans difficult to digest and forming gas filled intestines, leading to abdominal distension.
