Wu Zhu Yu Porridge
Wu Zhu Yu (Euodia ruticarpa), also known as Wu Yu, Cha La, Qi La Zi, Chou La Zi Shu, Zuo Li Chun You Zi, and Mi La Zi, is a dicotyledonous plant. Wu Zhu Yu usually comes in several varieties, including Da Hua Wu Zhu Yu, Zhong Hua Wu Zhu Yu, and Xiao Hua Wu Zhu Yu. It has a hot and bitter taste and a cold property. It is used to treat headaches and stomach pain caused by liver and stomach deficiencies, as well as other symptoms caused by Yin turbidity rising upwards. The pharmacological properties of this plant are derived from the "Ben Jing": "It is used to treat middle and lower Qi warming, pain relief, cough and counterflow cold and heat, dampness removal, blood stasis, expelling wind evil, and opening the pores." The "Ben Cao Gang Mu" records: "It relieves depression and resolves stagnation, treats acid reflux, Jue Yin phlegm-drool headaches, Yin toxin abdominal pain, hernia, blood dysentery, and throat, tongue, and mouth sores."
The Efficacy and Function of Wu Zhu Yu
Wu Zhu Yu has a pungent, dispersing, bitter, and purging nature. It has a hot property that dispels cold. It enters the liver meridian, dispelling liver cold pathogenic factors and promoting the circulation of liver qi. It is the main herb for treating various types of pain caused by liver and cold qi stagnation. 1. When used together with ginger and ginseng, it can treat Jue Yin headaches, dry retching, excessive salivation, white tongue coating, and slow pulse. 2. It is often combined with Xia Hui Xiang, Chuan Lian Zi, and Mu Xiang to treat cold hernia and abdominal pain. 3. When used with Gui Zhi, Dang Gui, and Chuan Xiong, it can treat deficient cold of the Chong and Ren meridians and pain due to blood stasis. 4. When combined with papaya, Su Ye, and Bing Lang, it can treat cold and damp foot pain and swelling, or upward counterflow into the abdomen.

When combined with Huang Lian, it can treat liver depression transforming into fire, distending pain in the liver area with bitterness in the mouth, and vomiting with acid reflux.
Wu Zhu Yu Porridge
【Recipe】2g Wu Zhu Yu, 50g glutinous rice, 2 slices of fresh ginger, 2 stems of green onion
【Preparation】Grind Wu Zhu Yu into a fine powder. Cook the glutinous rice into porridge first, then add the Wu Zhu Yu powder, fresh ginger, and green onion. Cook them together to make porridge.
【Functions and Indications】Tonifies the spleen and warms the stomach, warms the middle and disperses cold, relieves pain and stops vomiting. It is suitable for dysmenorrhea caused by deficiency and cold, as well as epigastric and abdominal pain, nausea, and acid reflux.
【Dosage】Take it twice a day. 3-5 days is one course of treatment.
