Anus Examination and Coccyx Treatment for Various Lower Back Conditions

December 4, 2023

The patient is placed in a knee-chest position, and the anus is exposed. The surgeon wears a rubber glove on their right hand and applies a small amount of lubricant to the middle finger. The finger is slowly inserted into the patient's anus and feels for the coccyx in front. At this point, the patient often experiences obvious tenderness in the coccyx area. The surgeon gently massages the tender point for half a minute and then instructs the patient to lean forward and lie prone with their legs extended. The surgeon slowly withdraws the middle finger from the anus. This treatment is used for acute lumbar sprains, subluxations of the coccyx, fractures and dislocations of the sacrum and coccyx, postpartum low back pain, chronic lower back pain, and coccygeal neuralgia.
