How to Combat Dry Lips: Dietary Adjustments and Remedies

Dry lips is a common problem that many people encounter. In addition to using lip balm as a simple method of prevention, we can also address the issue of dry lips through dietary adjustments.

Tremella Stewed with Rock Sugar

Ingredients: 50g Tremella, 10 Red Dates

Method: Add Tremella and Red Dates to a pot with rock sugar, stew for 10 minutes, and drink in three separate servings throughout the day.

Effect: Tremella nourishes the spleen, stimulates appetite, invigorates qi, cleanses the intestines, promotes sleep, benefits the stomach, nourishes the brain, nourishes yin, clears heat, and moisturizes dryness. Red Dates have the effects of replenishing deficiencies, nourishing qi, nourishing blood, calming the mind, invigorating the spleen, and benefiting the stomach. They have a good therapeutic effect for treating dry and cracked lips in the autumn and winter seasons.

Two Winter Soup

Ingredients: 15g Ophiopogon Japonicus, 15g Dwarf Lilyturf, 10g White Sugar

Method: Add 15g Ophiopogon Japonicus, 15g Dwarf Lilyturf (both are one-time doses), and 10g white sugar to a cup, cover with hot water (300ml), steep for 10-15 minutes before consuming. Ingredients: 2 pieces of Fat Sea Coconut, 3g North American Ginseng, 3g Balloon Flower Root, 3g Chinese Black Plum, 3 Chinese Dates

Method: Put the above ingredients in a thermos, pour boiling water over them, steep for 1 hour, and add a little rock sugar for taste.

Lily and Two Winter Paste

Ingredients: 250g Lily, 250g Dwarf Lilyturf, 250g Ophiopogon Japonicus

Method: Wash the above three ingredients, add water, simmer on low heat for 2 hours, filter and extract the juice, and concentrate into a paste. Mix 50g of honey into 100g of the concentrated paste. Consume 15g with boiled water in the morning and evening.

Effect: It has the effects of nourishing yin, clearing the lungs, moisturizing dryness, and quenching thirst. It is used for dry cough with little phlegm, dry throat, and dry and cracked lips.

Sand Ginseng Moisturizing Soup

Ingredients: 20g Sand Ginseng, 20g Polygonatum, 15g Rehmannia, 30g Dendrobium

Method: Cook the above ingredients into a soup, take one dose daily, and consume twice a day.

Effect: It has the effects of nourishing yin, moistening the lungs, invigorating qi, moisturizing dryness, and nourishing the stomach. It is used for dry lips and cracked lips, dry cough with hoarseness, restlessness and thirst.

What to Eat for Dry and Cracked Lips

1. Vegetables for preventing dry and cracked lips: such as spinach, mustard greens, amaranth, water spinach, kudzu, radish, eggplant, bamboo shoots, tomatoes, winter melon, cucumber, luffa, bitter gourd, mushrooms, tremella, mung beans, soybeans and their products, are all good dietary choices for preventing dry and cracked lips.

2. Grains and nuts for preventing dryness: sesame seeds, pine nuts, black beans, millet, wheat, barley, can help prevent dry and cracked lips.

3. Poultry, meat, and eggs for preventing dry and cracked lips: black-bone chicken, pork, duck, duck eggs, goose eggs, goose meat, pig lungs, rabbit meat, horse meat, and dairy products can all help prevent dry and cracked lips.

4. Fruits for preventing dryness: mulberry, sugarcane, banana, watermelon, cantaloupe, loquat, mango, pear, monk fruit, persimmon, pineapple, coconut, water chestnut, lotus root, water lily, lotus seeds, lily, coix seed, goji berries, tea leaves, chrysanthemum, honey, rock sugar, and salt, etc.

5. Seafood for preventing dry and cracked lips: seaweed, kelp, jellyfish, clams, turtle meat, snails, crabs, loach, carp, eel, black fish, oysters.
