Can a blood sample detect cancer?

May 12, 2023
Blood test is one of the more routine tests, a routine item in the hospital and a mandatory item in medical checkups, and the scope of the test is still relatively wide.

Can a blood test detect cancer?

Blood sampling can detect some cancers. Blood test includes many kinds of enzyme indices, which are directly related to the occurrence of cancer immunity. Therefore, blood test is used in many hospitals as one of the criteria for cancer diagnosis and can detect cancer.

What cancers can be detected by blood sampling

Elevated serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP): Commonly found in hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis, obstructive jaundice, acute and chronic jaundice hepatitis, osteoblastoma, and bone metastatic carcinoma. Elevated serum direct bilirubin: common in obstructive jaundice, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic head cancer, etc. Elevated serum amylase (AMY): common in acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, biliary tract disease, gastric perforation, intestinal obstruction, parotitis, salpingitis, etc. Decrease: Commonly seen in liver diseases (e.g. liver cancer, cirrhosis, etc.). High serum calcium, serum magnesium, serum phosphorus: common in bone tumors, etc. Serum AFU (α-L-amylase): often used as a good complementary means of serum AFP, a sensitive and specific marker for diagnosis, efficacy observation and postoperative follow-up of primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

Can blood sampling in physical examination detect cancer?

Blood sampling in physical examination cannot detect cancer. Many enzyme indicators are not counted and can only detect the specific organ function, but cannot be used as cancer diagnostic indicators. Therefore, the physical examination can only suggest that cancer cells may be present and need to be confirmed in hospital.

How to confirm the diagnosis of cancer

Once you have cancer, there will be a large amount of corresponding immune enzymes in your body. Many tests can detect the possibility of cancer, but the specific diagnosis needs to go to the hospital for targeted X-ray, CT, pathological examination, etc. to determine the nature of cancer.
