how to deal with chronic nosebleeds

March 31, 2023
There are many causes of nosebleeds, the most common being traumatic nosebleeds or nosebleeds caused by dry weather. How is a timely and effective way to stop a nosebleed when it is treated?

Stay calm

First of all, don't panic. Many people have an innate fear of blood, and as soon as they see all the blood coming out of their nose, they get frazzled and frightened. In fact it is very necessary to calm down at this time, find a quiet and comfortable place to sit down and handle the bleeding calmly.

Tilt your head forward

Usually people think that raising the head, nosebleed is not easy to flow out will be conducive to stop bleeding, but in fact, it is easy to make nosebleed backflow to the mouth, trachea, especially infants and children's poor autonomy, once inhaled trachea or even lungs is very dangerous. The correct method is to keep the head slightly tilted forward to reduce the pressure on the blood vessels and prevent nosebleeds from being inhaled.

Stopping the bleeding

Gently press the lateral part of the lower nasal cartilage with your finger for about 10 minutes, and if there is a hemostatic cotton swab or gauze, you can gently insert it into the nostril. Be sure not to use toilet paper or cotton to plug the nostrils to prevent cotton shavings from being left in the nasal cavity. If possible, you can use wet or ice towels to apply cold compresses to both sides of the nose, cheeks below the eyes and forehead, which helps the blood vessels to constrict and helps to stop bleeding. When there is more bleeding, you can use gauze to put pressure on the upper lip and upper gums to stop the bleeding, because part of the nasal blood vessels are moving upward from there, and this method is good for stopping the bleeding.

Do not pick your nose

Do not blow your nose immediately after stopping the bleeding or digging your hands into the dried crusts in your nostrils, as this can easily damage the blood vessels in the nasal cavity and cause further bleeding.

Tips

Bleeding from the nose is common, but it can also be dangerous, so it is important to know the correct way to handle it. If the above steps do not stop the bleeding, you need to seek medical help from an ENT doctor. If you have regular bleeding from the same side of the nose, you need to go to the hospital for further examination and do not delay your condition.
