In the hot summer, our eyes also need sun protection. How can we help keep our eyes healthy through diet? Here are three suggestions.
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C
Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C are antioxidants. Adding tomatoes, peppers, citrus fruits, kiwi, berries, and cauliflower to our daily menu can increase our intake of vitamin C.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A
Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A are also beneficial for our eyes. And β-carotene is the reason why the following vegetables produce a deep orange color: squash, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, apricots, peaches, and papaya.
3. Eat more yellow and green fruits and vegetables
Yellow and green fruits and vegetables can filter blue light. Lutein and zeaxanthin belong to a family of carotenoids that are color compounds. Other sources of lutein and carotenoids include romaine lettuce, kale, broccoli, avocado, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, and kiwi.
