Jinshan Niu, granular. It can be captured all year round, mostly in summer and autumn, when ants and ants live, sand is shovelled and sieved. After capturing, it is lightly stir-fried over low heat until the insect body expands. What are the specific characteristics of Jinshan Niu and how is it cultivated?
Jinshan Niu
Jinshan Niu
This product is granular, 7-15mm long, and the whole body is yellowish-brown with black-brown spots;
The head is relatively flat and large, with well-developed mouthparts, and a pair of upper jaws that are flat and curved inward like pincers;
The thorax is large, the abdomen has 10 segments, the thorax and abdomen are swollen or slightly swollen, with short hairs on both sides and spines at the end;
There are 3 pairs of legs, and the middle legs are the longest, which have usually fallen off during harvesting and processing.
The body is light and the texture is crispy. It has a slight fishy smell and a slightly salty taste. The best ones are those with large bodies, complete shape, yellowish-brown color, light body expansion, and no sand or mud.
Methods for cultivating Jinshan Niu
Collective feeding: It can be fed in a large enamel plate or a 25cm × 25cm plastic plate, but the depth must be at least 5cm.
Fill the feeding plate with dry fine sand with a thickness of 2.5cm.
Jinshan Niu
Due to the cannibalistic nature of Jinshan Niu, the density should not be too high. Its traps have a certain range of influence. For second instar larvae, the density should be about 30 square centimeters per head, and for third instar larvae, the density should be about 40 square centimeters per head.
The first instar larvae and the traps they build are relatively small, so the feeding density can be appropriately increased. However, after entering the second instar, partial transfer and dispersal must be carried out (Jinshan Niu throws away the shed skin on the edge of its trap, this can be used as a basis).
Single feeding: Since Jinshan Niu requires a certain range of influence for its living and habitat, collective feeding cannot increase the feeding density, while single feeding can increase the feeding density and ensure that they do not cannibalize each other.
Use a plastic cup or small porcelain teacup with a height of 5cm, a bottom diameter of 3-4cm, and a mouth diameter of 5cm as a container, filled with 2.5cm thick dry fine sand, and feed 1 head of Jinshan Niu per cup.
You can also install vertical and horizontal partition bars in the above-mentioned plastic plate for collective feeding, with a spacing of 5cm between each partition bar. This will divide the plastic plate into 25 5cm × 5cm squares, each containing 1 head of Jinshan Niu. Single feeding can be done from the first instar to cocooning without the need for dispersal and container replacement.
