Identification of Non-Gray Wood Characteristics:
This product is a fibrous aggregate, elongated and shaped like a long strip. It is 5-18cm long, with a diameter of 0.8-3cm. It is light gray or gray in color, with white streaks. The surface has longitudinal fine grain patterns and often has light yellow-brown spots. It is opaque and has a weak silky luster. The texture is hard and brittle, not easy to break, but easy to tear along the longitudinal fibers. It has a slight odor and a mild taste. This product can be corroded by hydrochloric acid and turns green. The best quality is fibrous, light gray in color, and has a silky luster.
Microscopic Identification of Non-Gray Wood:
Under transmitted polarized light microscopy: It appears as fibrous oriented arrangement, light yellow-green in color. The pleochroism is evident, and there are low negative relief features. The interference color is grade I, ranging from gray-white to yellow. It exhibits nearly parallel extinction and positive elongation symbols.
