Quze point is one of the commonly used acupoints in the Pericardium Meridian of Hand Jueyin. It is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon, and is needled with a slightly bent elbow. Quze point has the effects of clearing heat, relieving summer-heat, regulating the stomach, and clearing heat and detoxifying. In modern times, it is commonly used to treat acute gastroenteritis, heat stroke, and other conditions.
Qu means bending, and ze means swamp. The meridian qi flows to this point and enters the shallow concave of the bent elbow, just like water entering a swamp, hence the name Quze.
Qu means bending and not straight. Ze refers to the place where water gathers. This acupoint belongs to the confluent point, located in the inner side of the elbow, and is needled with a slightly bent elbow. Also, Quze point and Qize point are aligned horizontally, hence the name.
Quze point is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon, and is needled with a slightly bent elbow.
Quze point is in the front area of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the concave on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon. The palm is facing up, and the point is needled with a slightly bent elbow.
1. Needle insertion method
The palm is facing up, and the point is needled in the front area of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the concave on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon.
2. Anatomical location
It is located on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon; where the brachial artery and vein are located; the main trunk of the median nerve passes through here, and below the point are the skin, subcutaneous tissue, median nerve, and brachialis muscle. The skin is innervated by the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm, and the skin creases are deeper.
In addition to the above-mentioned cutaneous nerve, there is also an important vein called the cephalic vein, which originates from the ulnar side of the dorsal venous network of the hand, ascends behind the ulnar side of the forearm, turns to the front below the cubital fossa, and here it receives the median cubital vein, then it goes up along the inner edge of the biceps tendon, and enters the brachial vein through the deep fascia at the midpoint of the arm.
The needle passes through the skin, subcutaneous fascia, and the brachial fascia between the cephalic vein and the median cubital vein, and directly punctures the main trunk of the median nerve and the deep surface of the brachialis muscle on its medial side. This muscle is innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve.
3. Layered anatomy:
Skin → Subcutaneous tissue → Median nerve → Brachialis muscle.
The main trunk of the median nerve and the brachial artery and vein are distributed in this layer.
