[Clinical Applications of Kuhao]
1. Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Remove the old stems and roots of Gentiana scabra, grind it into powder, mix it with water to make pills, and coat them with talcum powder. Take 1 gram each time, 3 times a day, after meals. It was used to treat 565 cases, with effective control in 109 cases (19.3%), obvious effect in 187 cases (33.1%), improvement in 207 cases (36.6%), and ineffectiveness in 62 cases (10.9%).
2. Side effects: The incidence rate is 24.4%. Symptoms include bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, etc. Generally, it occurs within 1-2 days after taking the medicine at night, with mild symptoms that can disappear on their own and do not affect the continuation of the medication. This medicine is extremely bitter and should be taken after meals. Patients generally experience increased appetite, improved sleep, and improved mental state after taking the medicine.
3. Antibacterial effect: It has obvious anti-inflammatory, expectorant, anti-asthmatic, and antitussive effects. Experimental results have shown that the decoction of Gentiana scabra has antibacterial effects on seven bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Hemolytic Streptococcus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus albus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans.
