Chinese herbal medicine Dalangdu is produced in Taiwan, Sichuan, and Yunnan, and is also known as Sou Shan Hu or Tugua Dalangdu. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation and stopping bleeding, as well as killing insects and relieving itching. It is commonly used for bleeding from wounds, bruises and swelling, lymphadenitis, and scabies. However, it should not be taken internally!
[Do Not Take Dalangdu Internally]
Dalangdu is a perennial herb that grows to a height of 35-55cm. It is important to note that Dalangdu is toxic and should not be taken internally. According to various discussions in "Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": it can stop bleeding, reduce inflammation, and alleviate swelling. It is effective for external bleeding.
The whole plant contains white latex. The root is conical or cylindrical, with a diameter of 1-3cm. The outer skin is light brown, with no or a few lateral roots. The stem is clustered or solitary, cylindrical in shape, green-white, red, or green-white at the base with a purple-red halo at the upper part, unbranched or branched at the upper part.
The leaves are alternate; sessile; elliptic-lanceolate, elliptic-ovate, or lanceolate-ovate in shape, measuring 2-5.8cm in length and 0.7-1.9cm in width. The apex is short-pointed and blunt, the base is wedge-shaped, the margin is entire, the upper surface is green, and the lower surface is grayish-green, sometimes with a reddish blush.
The flowers are pale yellow. The inflorescence is terminal or near-terminal axillary; the terminal inflorescence has 5-9 pedicels arranged in an umbrella shape, with 5-9 bract-like bracts at the base, forming two layers.
The capsule is triangular-spherical, with small wart-like protrusions and red prickles; the seeds are ovate, reddish-brown, about 5mm long, with a distinct white hilum at one end. It blooms in summer.

1. "Dian Nan Ben Cao": "White and green stems are effective, while purple stems are ineffective."
2. "Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": "When harvesting, avoid contact with the juice on the skin, otherwise allergic reactions may occur, and the symptoms include facial swelling."
3. "Commonly Used Folk Herbal Medicine in Kunming": The whole plant of Dalangdu contains diterpene esters, saponins, fatty acids, alkaloids, and urushiol, etc.
Poisoning symptoms: abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, restlessness, and decreased blood pressure; severe cases may experience dizziness, unsteady gait, and convulsions.
Emergency treatment methods: 1. Gastric lavage, sedation, and intravenous fluids; 2. Take 3 grams of almond decoction; 3. Take 3 grams of white cohosh decoction; 4. Take 3 grams of licorice, 5 grams of mung beans, and 3 grams of dried ginger, decocted and taken orally.
