The leaves are solitary and alternate; elliptic, measuring 4.5 to 6.5 centimeters in length and 1 centimeter in width, with a blunt apex and a wedge-shaped base, and have entire margins; they are sessile. The flowers are usually 6 to 8 in number, borne at the top of the stem or singly in the leaf axils; pale yellow in color.
The capsule is spherical, about 1.3 centimeters in diameter, with soft spines on the outside, and splits into 3 chambers when mature. It flowers in the summer and grows on slopes and grasslands.
