Causes of Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a common disease located in the anus and can occur at any age. It is often associated with varicose veins, constipation, long-term alcohol consumption, eating large amounts of irritating foods, and prolonged sitting or standing. The main manifestation is rectal bleeding.

1. Vein dilatation theory:

The venous plexus is the main structure that forms the anal cushion. The formation of hemorrhoids is inevitably related to the pathological dilatation and thrombosis of the venous plexus. From an anatomical point of view, the portal vein system and its branches, as well as the rectal veins, have no venous valves. The rectal venous plexus has thin and superficial walls, and the submucosa of the terminal rectum is relaxed. These factors easily lead to blood stasis and venous dilatation.

2. Anal cushion descent theory:

The anal cushion closes the anus and regulates defecation. Under normal circumstances, the anal cushion is loosely attached to the anal canal wall. During defecation, it is pushed downwards by the downward pressure and retracts into the anal canal with its own contraction after defecation. When the elastic recoil ability is weakened, the anal cushion becomes congested, descends, and forms hemorrhoids. Western medicine supports the theory of anal cushion descent.
