The plant known as "Nü Wei" grows in the wild as well as being cultivated. It has a wide range of value, not only for its medicinal properties but also for its aesthetic appeal. It can be grown as a landscaping plant and has a beautiful visual effect.
Medicinal Value of Nü Wei:
The stem is light, bitter, and cool. It clears heat and promotes urination, invigorates blood circulation and promotes lactation. It is used for conditions such as damp-heat syndrome, edema, urinary disorders, disharmony in women's blood and qi, insufficient lactation, and amenorrhea.
The stem and leaves are pungent and warm. They aid digestion, promote urination, regulate menstruation, and invigorate the meridians. They are used for conditions such as cholera and diarrhea, and musculoskeletal pain. Fresh roots can be applied externally to treat toothaches caused by wind and fire.
Treatment for chronic diarrhea and prolapse of the anus: Burn one liter of Nü Wei and inhale the smoke.
Treatment for musculoskeletal pain: Take five qian of Nü Wei vine, five qian of Manxing Qianjinba, three qian of roadside brambles, and two qian of old hook vines. Decoct and take orally.
Precautions for use: Do not take excessive amounts of Nü Wei internally, as it may cause stomach discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, headache, chest tightness, limb weakness, or facial swelling.
Aesthetic Value of Nü Wei:
The plant has a full and beautiful appearance, which enhances its aesthetic appeal. It should not be pruned to prevent the removal of flower buds, resulting in no flowers to enjoy that year.
Light pruning can be done after the plant enters dormancy in autumn, removing only dense, thin, and diseased stems and vines. For excessively long stems and vines, pruning can be used to shorten them.
The stems of Nü Wei are thin and brittle, so care should be taken when tying and pulling them. When handling branches that need to be preserved, protect them to prevent breakage.
In garden cultivation, wooden sticks or bamboo can be used to create a frame for the new stems to grow and twine around, forming a tower-like structure. It can also be cultivated near a green corridor support, allowing it to climb and grow on it.
It can also be arranged in sparse shrub fences, allowing it to climb on them and turning the shrub hedge into a floral hedge. It can also be arranged on walls, pergolas, balconies, and porches, adding an elegant and unique touch.
