【Source】 The live or dried body of the larvae of the Chinese antlion Euroleon sinicus (Navas), a member of the neuropteran family Myrmeleontidae. It is dug out from sandy soil in spring and autumn, and can be used dried or fresh.

【Origin】 Mainly produced in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hebei, Anhui, Liaoning and other places.

【Properties and Channels】 Salty, cool. Toxic.

【Dosage】 1-2 fen (a unit of weight, approximately 0.3-0.6 grams). For external use, apply a suitable amount of powdered dried herb to the affected area.

Effects and Functions of Jin Sha Niu

Treats sand strangury, malaria, boils, and scrofula.

1. Treats malaria

Take eleven Jin Sha Niu, mix with alcohol and swallow. Take once half an hour before the onset of malaria. For chronic malaria, take for one week.

2. Treats malaria in children

Take seven Jin Sha Niu, stir-fry until fragrant, and swallow with boiling water.

3. Treats carbuncle and furuncle

4. Treats scrofula and ulceration

Can pregnant women eat Jin Sha Niu?

Pregnant women should not consume Jin Sha Niu. Pregnant women should mainly eat natural fruits and vegetables. In addition, they should avoid eating almonds, coix seed, crabs, and soft-shelled turtles, as they can easily cause miscarriage.
