Medicinal Origin: The root and leaves of the plant Macropanax rosthornii, a member of the Araliaceae family.
Scientific Name: Macropanax rosthornii(Harms)C.Y.Wuex Hoo [Nothopanax rosthornii Harms]
Harvesting and Storage: The root is harvested in autumn and winter, washed to remove soil, sliced, and used fresh or dried. The leaves are harvested in summer and autumn and mostly used fresh.
【Morphology】Evergreen shrub or small tree, 2-9m tall, with a trunk circumference of up to 20cm. Branches are dark brown, with longitudinal ridges and without hair. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 2-20cm long or longer, leaflet petiole is 0.3-1cm long, rarely up to 1.5cm long; pinnately compound leaves with 3-5 leaflets, inverted lanceolate, 6-12cm long, 1.5-3.5cm wide; short acuminate or long acuminate at the apex, wedge-shaped at the base, with sparse sharp serrations on the edges, dark green on the upper surface, light green or white on the lower surface, hairless on both sides, with 8-20 pairs of lateral veins. Terminal inflorescence is a cone-shaped panicle, 15-20cm long, with hairless main axis and branches; umbellate inflorescence has 6-11 flowers, about 1.5cm in diameter; calyx is about 1.5mm long, hairless, with nearly entire margin; corolla has 5 triangular-ovate petals, about 1.5mm long, yellowish-white; stamens are 5, with filaments about 3mm long; floral disk is slightly protruding, semi-spherical; ovary is inferior, 2-celled, style is fused into a column, with a shallow 2-lobed apex. The fruit is ovoid, about 5mm long, with a diameter of 3-5mm, and persistent styles about 1-2mm long. It flowers from July to September and fruits from October to December.

Ecological Environment: It grows in forests, shrubs, and along forest edges at elevations of 500-1300m.
Distribution: It is distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, and other regions.
【Taste and Nature】Sweet in taste; neutral in nature
【Functions and Indications】Dispels wind and alleviates pain; promotes blood circulation and opens the meridians; strengthens the spleen. It is mainly used for rheumatism, pain, bruises, fractures, and infantile malnutrition.
【Dosage and Administration】Oral: 9-15 grams, soaked in wine. External use: Crushed and applied as a poultice.
【Prescriptions】1. For bone fractures: First reset the bone, then apply an appropriate amount of Qi Jiao Feng root as a poultice; also use 3-5 qian (9-15 grams) of the root, steam it with wine, and take it twice a day. 2. For rheumatic bone pain: Take an equal amount of Qi Jiao Feng leaves, San Jiao Feng, She Dao Tui, Zi Jin Niu, Hong Niu Xi, and Wu Jia Pi, decoct them in water and wash the affected area; also use 3 qian (9 grams) each of Qi Jiao Feng root, San Jiao Feng, Hong Niu Xi, and Wu Jia Pi, decoct them in water or soak them in wine for oral administration.
