The medicinal herb known as "Da Wei Yao" is the whole plant or root of the plant in the Verbenaceae family. Da Wei Yao has the effects of clearing heat, promoting diuresis, reducing swelling, and detoxifying the body. It is used to treat pneumonia, empyema, sore throat, cough, bladder stones, convulsions in children, oral ulcers, and abscesses.
1. "Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine": "Promotes diuresis, clears heat, reduces abscesses, and detoxifies the body. Used to treat fever with rash, pneumonia, and empyema."
2. "Nanning Pharmaceutical Journal": "Reduces swelling, detoxifies the body, dispels accumulations. Taken internally to treat bladder stones; branches and leaves are boiled with lime water for fumigation to treat snake bites."
3. "Folk Herbal Medicine in Minnan Region": "Used to treat sore throat, cough, early-stage abscesses, and oral ulcers."
For the treatment of abscesses, take 60 grams of dried Da Wei Yao, chop it into pieces, add 1000 milliliters of water, and simmer over low heat until it reduces to 500 milliliters. Take 20 milliliters each time, three times a day after meals. Adjust the dosage for children.
In the treatment of 213 cases, 37 cases were cured within 1-3 days of taking the medicine, 96 cases within 4-5 days, 52 cases within 6-10 days, and 28 cases took more than 10 days. Preliminary observations showed that it is effective for abscesses in the early stage, suppurative stage, and tissue necrosis stage, with better results when used early.

【Medicinal Value of Da Wei Yao】
1. Used to treat scabies and abdominal pain: Take 1-2 liang (approximately 50-100 grams) of fresh Da Wei Yao, decoct it and drink the soup.
2. Used to treat pneumonia, lung abscess, and empyema: Take 2 liang (approximately 100 grams) of fresh Da Wei Yao, decoct it and mix with honey to drink; or take 2-4 liang (approximately 100-200 grams) of fresh Da Wei Yao, mash and squeeze out the juice, mix with honey and drink.
3. Used to treat testicular swelling and pain: Take 2 liang (approximately 100 grams) of fresh Da Wei Yao root, decoct it and drink the soup.
4. Used to treat convulsions in children: Take 4 qian (approximately 12 grams) of dried Da Wei Yao root, 3 qian (approximately 9 grams) of dried Huang Dan Cao (yellow gall herb), add a little salt, stew with water and drink.
5. Used to treat oral ulcers: Mash fresh Da Wei Yao leaves into juice, and rinse the mouth with it 4-6 times a day.
6. Used to treat abscesses: Take 2 liang (approximately 100 grams) of fresh Da Wei Yao root, add a little salt, decoct it and drink the soup; separately take fresh leaves, mash them with cold rice, and apply to the affected area.

【Pharmacological Effects of Da Wei Yao】
The extract of Da Wei Yao leaves has anti-cancer effects and can prolong the lifespan of mice with Schwartz leukemia (ascites type). Foreign experimental literature has confirmed its anti-cancer effects and its use in clinical treatment of cancer and leukemia.
1. Anti-tumor effects: The extract of Da Wei Yao leaves has anti-tumor effects (prolonging lifespan) in mice with leukemia (ascites type).
It has no effect on the abdominal straight muscle of frogs, but it has a significant excitatory effect on the isolated uterus of rats. Both the water extract and the alcohol extract have oxytocin-like effects.
2. Hypotensive effects: Intravenous injection of the water extract of Da Wei Yao root in anesthetized cats can lower blood pressure and stimulate respiration. It has an inhibitory effect on the isolated heart of frogs, while the alcohol extract has no effect.
