"National Compilation of Chinese Medicinal Herbs": "Clears heat, detoxifies, relieves pain, and stops cough. It is used to treat lung heat cough, mumps, mastitis, boils, and abscesses."

1. Treating lung heat cough: Five qian of Da Jiugu Niu root (peeled), two qian of Xianglingcao, two qian of Wacao. Grind them together into powder and take two qian each time, twice a day.

2. Treating mastitis, mumps, boils, and abscesses: Mix equal parts of Da Jiugu Niu, Chonglou, Baiji, Xiaozhanyao, and Wuxiang Xueteng. Grind them into powder and mix with honey or vinegar for external application.

【Symptoms of mumps】

Some people infected with the mumps virus may have no symptoms or only mild symptoms.

When signs and symptoms do appear, they usually occur two to three weeks after exposure to the virus and may include: swelling and pain in one or both salivary glands (mumps), fever, headache, muscle aches, weakness and fatigue, loss of appetite, pain when chewing or swallowing. The main and most well-known symptom of mumps is swollen salivary glands, leading to swelling of the cheeks.

The cause of mumps is the mumps virus, which is easily spread from person to person through infected saliva.

If you are not immune, you can contract mumps by inhaling droplets of infected saliva from someone who has just sneezed or coughed. You can also contract mumps by sharing utensils or cups with someone who has mumps.
