Di Shao Gua (Cynanchum thesioides (Freyn) K. Schum. [C. sibiricum (L.) R. Brown]) is a plant of the Apocynaceae family. The whole plant and fruit are used as medicine. It is harvested in summer and autumn, and the cut segments are dried for use.

1. The stem branches from the base. Leaves are opposite or nearly opposite; leaf blades are linear, 3-5cm long and 2-5mm wide, with raised veins on the lower surface. The umbel inflorescence is axillary; the calyx is covered with soft hairs on the outside; the corolla is green and white; the corolla lobes are cup-shaped, triangular-lanceolate, gradually closed, and higher than the membranous lobes of the ovary. The fruit is spindle-shaped, gradually pointed at the apex, swollen in the middle, 5-6cm long and approximately 2cm in diameter. The seeds are flattened, dark brown, up to 8mm long, with white silky hairs up to 2cm long. It flowers from May to August and fruits from August to October.
2. The fruit of the Cynanchum thesioides variety is similar to the original species. The stem is weak, with fewer branches, and the stem tip usually extends and twines. The leaves are linear or linear-lanceolate; the flowers are smaller and more numerous. It flowers from March to August and fruits from May to October.

Isolated from the whole plant of Di Shao Gua: β-sitosterol, daucosterol, ferulic acid, succinic acid, sucrose, quercetin, 1,3-O-dimethyl-myo-inositol. It has also been reported that β-amyrin acetate, lupeol acetate, α-amyrin caprylate, glyceride-1,3-dipalmito-2-sorbate, tamarixetin, tamarixetin-3-O-β-D-galactopyranoside, and thesioideoside have been isolated. Tamarixetin and quercetin have been isolated from the whole plant of the Cynanchum thesioides variety.
