【Usage and Dosage】
Boil the herbs with 400ml of water, add 3 slices of ginger, simmer until 320ml, and take orally.
【Introduction of Medicinal Materials】
Sangbaipi: Clears the lungs, relieves wheezing, eliminates water and reduces swelling. Treats lung heat-induced wheezing, coughing and blood in sputum, edema, leg qi, urinary difficulties.
Banxia: Dry dampness, transform phlegm, lower counterflow and stop vomiting, dissolve masses and dispel stagnation.
Huangqin: Has the effects of clearing heat and dampness, purging fire and detoxification, stopping bleeding, and stabilizing pregnancy. Used for damp heat, summer heat causing chest tightness and nausea, damp heat causing distention and fullness, diarrhea, jaundice, lung heat-induced cough, high fever with restlessness and thirst, blood heat causing vomiting blood, carbuncle and abscess, fetal movement discomfort.
Huanglian: Has the effects of clearing heat and dampness, purging fire and detoxification. Used for damp heat causing distention and fullness, vomiting, acid regurgitation, diarrhea, jaundice, high fever with delirium, excessive heart fire causing restlessness and insomnia, palpitations, blood heat causing vomiting blood, red eyes, toothache, diabetes, carbuncle and abscess.
Beimu: Clears heat, moistens the lungs, transforms phlegm, stops coughing, disperses masses and reduces swelling. Used for lung deficiency, chronic cough, consumptive cough, dry heat-induced cough, lung abscess, scrofula, carbuncle and abscess, mammary abscess.
【Explanation of the Formula】
The formula is mainly composed of Sangbaipi, which is sweet and cold in nature, and is used to lower and clear the lungs, relieve lung fire, and lower lung qi to stop coughing and wheezing. Banxia, Suzi, and Xingren are used as adjuvants, as they have descending properties and can lower qi, transform phlegm, and stop coughing and wheezing.
Beimu is bitter and cold in nature, clearing heat and moistening the lungs, transforming phlegm and stopping coughing. Huangqin, Huanglian, and Zhizi are bitter and cold in nature, and their clearing heat and purging fire properties are strong. They can clear upper burner heat, and also counterbalance the warming properties of Banxia, Suzi, and Xingren, acting as assisting herbs. Three slices of ginger are added to disperse the cold nature of the other herbs and promote the flow of Qi. The combination of these herbs, using both cold and warm properties, with cold as the main property and spicy opening, bitter descending, cold clearing heat, descending qi transforming phlegm, clearing heat assisting phlegm, and descending qi promoting wheezing, all contribute to the functions of clearing heat, transforming phlegm, and lowering qi to stop coughing and wheezing.
