Chemical Composition and Uses of Rubus parvifolius Leaves

The leaves of Rubus parvifolius are the leaves of the single-leaf bramble or the bramble vine. The leaves also contain purple-flowered rubusanthin, musizin-7-glucoside, and a tetrahydroxy methoxy flavone-α-D-glucoside.
 


 

Chemical composition of Rubus parvifolius leaves

The twigs (dried) of Rubus parvifolius contain 0.11-0.12% volatile oil. The leaves (dried) contain 0.28% volatile oil. The oil contains α-pinene and borneol 55%, acetyl citronellol ester 10%, and terpene alcohol 20%. The leaves also contain purple-flowered rubusanthin, musizin-7-glucoside, and a tetrahydroxy methoxy flavone-α-D-glucoside.

According to "Lu Chuan Materia Medica": "Pungent and slightly cold."

Uses and indications of Rubus parvifolius leaves

① "Lingnan Collection of Medicinal Plants": "The leaves are used to treat bruises and injuries. They can be crushed and taken with wine or applied externally as a poultice. They can also be decocted and taken orally to treat migraines." ② "Lu Chuan Materia Medica": "The twigs and leaves can reduce swelling and relieve pain. They can be used to treat knife wounds and stop bleeding, as well as bruises and injuries, and rheumatic pain."

Dosage and administration of Rubus parvifolius leaves

Oral administration: Decoction, 1-3 qian (3-9 grams); or juice extracted and taken with wine. External use: Crush and apply as a poultice.
