【Physiological Characteristics of Dujiaogan】

Dujiaogan, also known as dry grass or short legs, is a one-year semi-parasitic herbaceous plant that grows to a height of 10-30cm. The entire plant is covered with stiff hairs. It has a single stem with few branches.

The lower leaves are opposite, while the upper leaves are alternate. The leaf blades are linear or narrowly lanceolate, about 1cm long or shorter, sometimes degenerating into scales. The flowers are solitary axillary or form a spike-like inflorescence at the top of the stem. The lower flowers are sparse, while the upper flowers are dense, and they have no pedicel. The bracts are often longer than the calyx.

The calyx is tubular, 5-lobed, with lanceolate lobes and 10 ribs. The corolla is yellow, red, or white, about 1-1.5cm long, with a sharply curved apex. The upper lip is shortly 2-lobed, and the lower lip is 3-lobed. There are 4 stamens with anthers hidden inside, and one pistil with a slender cylindrical style. The capsule is ovoid, enclosed in the persistent calyx. The plant produces numerous seeds. It flowers in July and fruits in August-September.
