Dietary Therapies for Constipation: Natural Remedies to Relieve and Regulate Bowel Movements

Stool is the excretion of our body's metabolism and can produce various toxins if it stays in the body for more than a day. If constipation persists, it can lead to various diseases. So, what are some dietary therapies to solve this problem?


1. Su Ma Congee:

Take 15g of Su Zi (Perilla Frutescens) and 15g of Ma Ren (Hemp Seed), and an appropriate amount of glutinous rice. Cook the congee and have 1 small bowl in the morning and evening. This remedy helps to regulate qi and relieve constipation caused by qi stagnation.

2. Potato Honey Paste:

Take 1000g of potatoes, cut them into thin shreds, and squeeze the juice with gauze. Cook the juice until it is thick, then add honey in a 1:1 ratio. Cook until it becomes as thick as honey, then remove from heat and let it cool. Store in a bottle. Take 10ml each time, twice a day. This remedy helps to strengthen the spleen and nourish qi, and is suitable for constipation caused by qi deficiency.

3. Pork Fat Honey Paste:

Take 100g of pork fat and 100g of honey. Boil them separately over low heat until boiling, then let them cool. Mix the pork fat and honey together evenly. Take 5-10ml each time, twice a day. This remedy nourishes yin, promotes blood circulation, and moisturizes the intestines. It is suitable for constipation caused by insufficient yin blood.


4. Mulberry Sugar:

Take 500g of white sugar and add a little water to a pot. Cook over low heat until it becomes thick, then add 200g of dried mulberry powder and mix well. Continue to cook until it can be lifted with a shovel without sticking and becomes thread-like. Remove from heat and pour the sugar into a porcelain dish coated with edible oil. Let it cool slightly and cut the sugar into small pieces. It is ready to eat. This remedy nourishes the liver and kidneys and is suitable for constipation caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency.

5. Pine Nut Sugar:

Follow the same method as mulberry sugar. This remedy moisturizes the intestines and promotes bowel movements, and is suitable for constipation caused by dry intestines.

6. Honey and Sesame Oil Soup:

Take 30g of honey, 5g of sesame oil, and 100ml of boiled water. Pour the honey into a bowl, add the sesame oil and stir well, then add warm boiled water. Take it in the morning. This remedy benefits qi and moisturizes the intestines, and is suitable for those with qi and yin deficiency.
