  Identification:

  The dried root is irregularly spindle-shaped or cylindrical, about 8-13 cm long and 0.5-2 cm in diameter. The outer skin is dark purple-red or brownish-black, with longitudinal wrinkles and transverse cracks, and sometimes has ring markings at the top.

  Processing method:

  Diju: Remove impurities, wash with water, soak slightly, cut into thick slices, and dry in the sun.

  1. For persistent bloody dysentery: Diju 2 liang, zhi gancao (roasted and pounded) half liang. Grind the two ingredients into coarse powder. Take 5 qian (about 15 grams) per dose, boil with one cup of water for 7 minutes, remove the residue, and take it warm. Take twice a day, skipping one night.

  2. For rectal bleeding: Diju 4 liang, zhi gancao (roasted) 3 liang. Take 5 qian (about 15 grams) per dose, boil with two cups of water, add one qian (about 3 grams) of sandalwood powder, boil for half a cup, and divide into two doses.

  3. For long-term intestinal wind, persistent pain and itching: Diju 5 qian (about 15 grams), cangzhu 1 liang. Boil with two cups of water, boil down to one cup, take on an empty stomach, once a day.

  4. For women with continuous red vaginal bleeding, leading to emaciation and thirst: Diju 2 liang (finely pounded), boil with one liter of vinegar, boil for more than ten boils, remove the residue, and take one he (about 30 grams) before meals, slightly warm.
