Shuo Shi is a widely used medicinal herb for treating various bone diseases in humans, especially fractures and injuries. It has high medicinal value and good therapeutic effects.
1. For treating cold and dampness-induced joint pain, weakness, and heaviness, or lower back pain and leg paralysis: Burn the leaves of Shuo Shi, spread them thickly on a bed, and sleep on them to keep warm. In winter, use the roots, and in spring, use the stems. Boil them and lie on top for better effects. Other methods of heating are not as effective as steaming with Shuo Shi. This method is also used for wind-dampness conditions in other parts of the body.
2. For treating edema, inability to sit or lie down, and swelling of the head, face, and body: Scrape the skin off the roots of Shuo Shi, pound them into juice, mix with an equal amount of wine, warm it up, and take it on an empty stomach to induce mild vomiting and bowel movements.
3. For treating early-stage athlete's foot, with swelling and pain from the foot to the shinbone: Crush the roots of Shuo Shi, mix with three parts of wine lees and one part of the roots, steam them until hot, and apply the mixture to the swollen area, changing it twice a day. This method is also used for stubborn paralysis.
4. For treating nephritis-induced edema and edema caused by athlete's foot: Take four to eight qian (Chinese unit of weight) of the whole Shuo Shi plant, decoct in water, and drink the decoction.
5. For treating excessive vaginal discharge in women: Take three liang (Chinese unit of weight) of fresh Shuo Shi roots each time, stew with pig intestine, and take it for three to five times continuously.
6. For treating pain from injuries and fractures: Take six qian of Shuo Shi roots, decoct in equal amounts of alcohol and water, filter out the residue, add one liang of white sugar, stir well, and take it orally.
7. For treating bruises and sprains: Chop fresh Shuo Shi roots into small pieces, mix with white part of spring onion and rice wine lees, crush into a paste, and apply it to the affected area, changing it once a day.
8. For treating rheumatoid arthritis, chronic lower back and leg pain, acute sprains with hematoma, and edema: Take five qian to one yin (Chinese unit of weight) of Xue Man Cao (another name for Shuo Shi). Decoct and drink, or use the decoction for external washing.
9. For treating hemoptysis caused by injuries: Take three qian of dried Shuo Shi roots, three qian of Cibai leaves, and four qian of Di Yu. Decoct and drink.
10. For treating red and swollen abscesses: Crush fresh Shuo Shi roots or leaves, mix with a little beaten egg, and apply the mixture to the affected area.
