【Morphology of Wu Xue Teng】

Wu Xue Teng is a vine that can grow up to 4 meters long. The branches and inflorescences are covered with soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; ovate, ovoid, or rectangular-oval, 2.5-3 cm long and 1.5-4 cm wide, blunt or short-pointed at the apex, narrow or rounded at the base, both sides are either hairless or only covered with soft hairs on the veins; petioles are 6-8 mm long, hairy, with clustered glandular structures at the top.

Umbel inflorescences arise from the leaf axils, about 1.5 cm long; calyx is 5-lobed, lobes are ovate; corolla is bell-shaped, yellow, 5-lobed, about 4 mm in diameter, with 5 fleshy scales opposite to the corolla lobes; stamens are 5, filaments fused into a tube; stigma is broad and blunt, concave-conical, protruding from the stamens.

The fruit is hard and about 5 cm long, with a wide base. Seeds are oval, thin and concave, with radial, white, silky hairs. It flowers in July and is found in forests or shrubs. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and other places.
