【Morphology of E Jiao Ban】

E Jiao Ban is a perennial herbaceous plant, reaching up to 2m in height. It usually has a fibrous root, occasionally a conical root. The stem is erect, striped, and covered with soft hairs, with branches in the upper and middle parts. The leaves are heteromorphic; the basal leaves have long petioles, including leaf sheaths that are 2-13cm long.

The leaf blades are tripinnately divided, with ovate or circular lobes. The lobes on both sides are inclined at the base, and the lobes at the apex have a heart-shaped or wedge-shaped base, measuring 1.5-4cm in length and 1-3cm in width. The lower and middle stem leaves are tripinnately divided or pinnately divided, while the upper stem leaves are smaller, with short petioles or no petioles, and have leaf sheaths. The leaf blades of the upper stem leaves are pinnately divided or trilobed, with lanceolate lobes, and all leaf margins are serrated.

There are usually no bracts, occasionally 1-5; the radii of the umbel are 6-15 (-30), measuring 1-4cm in length; there are 1-8 bracteoles, which are shorter than the pedicels; there are 6-20 flowers in each umbel, with unequal pedicels; the petals are inversely ovate, white, with a concave apex and a wedge-shaped base, and the involucral bracts are hairy; the styles are cylindrical at the base, and the length of the style is 2-3 times that of the base, becoming erect during the young fruit stage and later bending to both sides.

The mature fruit is ovoid, with linear fruit ridges; there are 2-3 oil ducts in each ridge groove, and 4-6 adnate surface oil ducts. The flowering and fruiting period is from May to October.
