What is Zhuyesan?
Zhuyesan, also known as mountain bamboo flower, yixianxiang, bamboo joint grass, yuzhu grass, white child grass, and bamboo leaf grass.
The dried rhizome is flat cylindrical, curved, 5-10mm long, and about 5mm in diameter, with many fine roots at the bottom.
The root is cylindrical, slightly twisted, 4-10mm long, and 1-2mm in diameter; the surface is yellowish-brown with fine longitudinal stripes.
It is hard and brittle, with a yellowish-white skin and a light brown wood section. It has a slight fragrance and a sweet and slightly pungent taste. Thick and yellowish-brown roots are preferred. The seeds are dark brown and about 5mm in diameter. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to October.
Zhuyesan has a slow growth rate and prefers a cool and moist natural environment. It also prefers soft, breathable, and fertile soil layers. Therefore, the total number of natural Zhuyesan is very small.
The efficacy of Zhuyesan
Zhuyesan has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, relaxing tendons and activating blood circulation. It is used to treat persistent high fever, exhaustion with bone steaming and heat, rheumatism and paralysis, joint and lower back pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, abscesses, boils, bruises, and fractures.
1. "Shaanxi Chinese Herbal Medicine": Nourishes yin and replenishes deficiency, dispels wind and dampness, activates collaterals and relieves pain. It is used to treat exhaustion, bone steaming and heat, pulmonary tuberculosis, palpitations and shortness of breath, rheumatic lower back and leg pain, sciatica.
2. "Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": Promotes bone healing, stops bleeding, reduces inflammation, and relieves pain. It dispels wind and removes dampness.
3. "Jiangxi Herbal Medicine": Dispels wind and heat, relaxes tendons, and activates blood circulation.
Orally: decoction; 3-5 qian (10-15 grams); or soaked in alcohol, stewed with chicken, or ground into powder. Externally: apply the powder to the affected area.
Usage of Zhuyesan
1. For treating high fever in children: Take an appropriate amount of mountain bamboo flower root and grind it into powder. Take one qian (3 grams) each time, twice a day, and swallow with cold water.
2. For treating paralysis of hands and feet: Take two liang (60 grams) of mountain bamboo flower root and one chicken egg. Stew them in water and consume the soup with the egg.
3. For treating rheumatic pain: Take six qian (20 grams) of mountain bamboo flower root, five qian (16.7 grams) of red child root, three qian (10 grams) of madder root, three qian (10 grams) of large blood vine root, and three qian (10 grams) of tiger thorn root. Soak them in one jin (500 grams) of white wine for seven days. Take five qian (16.7 grams) to two liang (60 grams) each time, once in the morning and evening.
4. For treating lower back pain: Take an appropriate amount of mountain bamboo flower root and grind it into powder. Take two qian (6.7 grams) each time, dissolve in water or wine, and take once in the morning and evening.
5. For treating rheumatic joint pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, and pulmonary tuberculosis: Take three to five qian (10-16.7 grams) of white root medicine. Decoct in water or stew with chicken and consume.
