Shandougen is a commonly used Chinese medicinal herb. According to ancient herbal books, there is more than one type of Shandougen used in ancient times. However, the most widely used in different regions is the Leguminosae plant, Guangdougen. In Tianjin and Beijing, the former is called Guangdougen and the latter is called Shandougen. So, what are the effects and functions of Shandougen?
1. It has the function of clearing heat and relieving sore throat, with anti-inflammatory effects.
2. Animal experiments have shown that it has certain inhibitory effects on malignant tumors.

Taste: Bitter and cold.
Meridian tropism: Enters the Lung and Large Intestine meridians.
Function: Clears heat, detoxifies, and relieves sore throat swelling.
Indications: When there is an upward attack of heat toxins causing throat swelling and pain.
Clinical applications:
1. It is used to treat throat swelling and pain, gum swelling and pain caused by heat toxins. It can be combined with Xuan Shen, Jie Geng, She Gan, or She Gan, Niu Bang Zi as a prescription for treating throat pain. It can reduce swelling and relieve pain. However, it is not suitable for throat swelling and pain caused by deficiency fire.
2. As an adjuvant therapy for cancer treatment (especially in the early stage of lung cancer and throat cancer), Shandougen is often used together with Bai Hua She She Cao, Yu Xing Cao, but the efficacy still needs further observation.
3. Shandougen powder can be used topically (applied or sprayed) to treat cervical inflammation and oral inflammation with anti-inflammatory effects.
Dosage: 6-9g for internal use, 1.8-6g for powder, and appropriate amount for external use.
